I have to admit this was a very emotional build for the team. It all started with a text message from Erick, who purchased a EK Conqueror Gaming PC directly from EKWB. It was a nice unit, but it was ultimately still a prebuilt, and Erick wanted something truly custom with no compromises in terms of engineering, effort, parts or passion. Although a project of this calibre and difficulty was intimidating, and I was concerned about creative differences and the overall unpredictability of the work, I trusted my team and most of all I trusted Erick. He had PC building experience, which was great because he knows how time consuming a job like this can be. On the other hand, I was worried about being able to meet his standards, because the PC he built himself a few years ago was pretty nice and Erick had already returned the EK Conqueror Gaming PC, and that was not a bad PC. This build had to be perfect. When we started the project, many of the parts that we needed literally had not even been produced yet. The first step was to make a mockup of the final product using Photoshop. Some of the main differences between this build, which would get the internal project codename of "The Rolex" compared to an off the shelf EK Conqueror Gaming PC were that all the fittings would be Gold Plated, and all the fans would be Lian Li instead of EKWB brand fans. As the project moved along and parts arrived, there were a few key gametime decisions and fortunately, Erick and I seemed to agree on everything. Some of the changes we made to the plan were a Gold Plated D5 Pump Cover, which was a big visual upgrade, and custom Cable Mod Cables with Gold Combs. The cables added a few weeks to the timeline, but in my opinion, it was totally worth it. The big moment came when it was time to decide on the GPU orientation and plumbing. Unlike the EKWB Conqueror, we went with a horizontal GPU mount that shows off the ASUS ROG Strix 4090 EKWB Active Backplate as well as Randy's hardline skills. This was by far the longest build we have ever done, but everybody on the team, and most importantly, Erick, love the way the PC came out. In terms of a hardline job, I have no intention of trying another build on this level for a long time!
